This June, the Armstrong Spallumcheen Museum & Art Gallery welcomes two very different, but beautifully complementary, exhibitions. Together, they offer visitors two ways of seeing: one rooted in shared time spent in the landscape, and the other full of colour, imagination, and playful detail.

Main Gallery — Together: From There to Here
Featuring Diane Akey, Maureen Howard, and Patricia L. Smith, this exhibition grows out of friendship, creative adventure, and a shared love of painting outdoors. Working together as the Shuswap Plein Air Troupe, these artists bring their own individual styles to the landscape, creating work that is at once personal, expressive, and grounded in place. Visitors can expect a lively mix of texture, colour, and atmosphere, shaped by time spent looking closely at the world around them.

Freeze Gallery — A Touch of Whimsy (Nancy Vince)
Nancy Vince’s work brings a bright and cheerful energy to the gallery. Her high-definition metal prints are filled with flowers, birds, mushrooms, cottages, butterflies, and all kinds of small visual surprises. There is a storybook quality to these pieces, along with a deep enjoyment of nature’s quieter magic. Full of charm and colour, A Touch of Whimsy invites viewers to slow down, smile, and take a closer look.

School Crossing: Celebrating Student Art Across Our Community

Each May, the Armstrong Spallumcheen Museum & Art Gallery proudly hosts School Crossing, a student art exhibition that brings together young artists from across our community.

This year’s show will feature artwork by students from Highland Park Elementary, Armstrong Elementary School, Len Wood Middle School, Pleasant Valley Secondary School, the North Okanagan Junior Academy, and homeschoolers from the Armstrong and Spallumcheen area. Students of all ages are invited to participate, and the resulting exhibition is always vibrant, joyful, and inspiring.

Artwork will be displayed in both galleries, giving students the exciting experience of seeing their work presented in a semi-professional exhibition setting. For many young artists, this is their first time sharing their creativity in a public gallery — an experience that builds confidence, pride, and a lasting connection to the arts.

Artwork drop-off: Tuesday, April 28 (ideally through teachers)
Exhibition dates: Apr 30 – May 23
Student & Family Reception: Saturday, May 2 | 1:00–3:00 PM

School Crossing is also a favourite time of year for school tours, with many classes visiting the Museum and Galleries throughout May. Seeing their own work — and the work of their peers — on the walls makes these visits especially meaningful.
