There are no words to express how profoundly sorry we are to hear of the 215 children found buried in a mass grave on the site of the Kamloops Indian Residential School. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of those children, the Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc community, and all Indigenous communities across Canada.
With this find, with these facts we can no longer remain oblivious or close our eyes to the pain, suffering and sorrow felt by the First Nations peoples because of the acts supporting their colonization and assimilation.
We join our voices with those who call for truth and the necessary action to return each child to their family and community. We also add our voices to those calling for the continued investigation of Residential School sites so that all lost children may be returned home and buried with dignity in the tradition of their people.
